Do you still keep up with old friends and coworkers from the mill?
How did old friends and coworkers help after the mills closed? What other community support did you find?

I was a “working” foreman in the Fabric Print Dept. and I was opposed to the union’s attempt to organize the first couple of times. But then I began to see the benefit and wage cuts that were being imposed on all of us. Every goal the company set for us, quality, or quantity, we far exceeded their expectations. And yet that still was never enough.
But when the “end” came, all the politicians came and made their little speeches, and then hightailed it back to Washington and Raleigh. The union was the only organization that stood up for ALL the workers, and STILL is today.
Another person that deserves special recognition is the former head of Cabarrus Social Services, Jim Cook. He stood by the workers and their families. He will always have my respect and gratitude.
Unfortunately, the few people I did work with in the IT department have gone their ways and I only have a few names and current contact numbers.
If any of you guys are out there and read this, give me a shout.

BTW, the Data Center at Fieldcrest cost millions of dollars to setup and run. NOW, not even the building is there anymore. What a shame! It was a really nice Data Center and the people that ran it were top dogs in their fields.
