CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) _ The Carolina Panthers placed quarter back Brett Basanez and two other players on injured reserve and waived two more players Tuesday to get down to 75 players on the NFL’s first mandatory cut date.

Basanez, who was contending for the No. 3 QB job, suffered a season-ending injury to his right wrist in Friday’s preseason loss to New England.

The Panthers placed defensive end Rondell Biggs on injured reserve, while receiver Josh Davis, who underwent an appendectomy during training camp, was placed on the reserve/non-football illness list.

The Panthers also waived injured receiver Justin McCullum and running back Marlion Jackson.

The Panthers, who host Pittsburgh in their final exhibition game Thursday, must get to the regular season limit of 53 players by Saturday afternoon.

Carolina opens the regular season Sept. 9 at St. Louis.
